Seabird feathers
As part of the type of filling, the seabird's curved feathers make a very plump and airy pillow. A pillow with seabird feathers will remain voluminous for many years, when the pillow is simply fluffed up regularly.
The feathers are sorted by bearing capacity and fineness, of which we use only the best quality. The feathers are supplied by a Western European supplier. This ensures a high quality and that the birds are slaughtered for the purpose of being used for food.
Each delivery is tested in our own laboratory, using our own testing method, to ensure that the feathers have the correct volume in both unloaded and loaded conditions. The feathers are washed and treated according to the German RAL regulations.
Fibre | Softfill staple fibre
Staple fibre is fibre in "strands" that are delivered unbundled to give the largest possible volume. Compared to ball fibre, staple fibre does not have quite the same recovery.
Softfill staple fibre can be supplied fire retardant.
Fibre | Softball ball fibre
Ball fibre consists of interconnected coherent fibre balls, which are made from carded staple fibres. Ball fibre "raises" faster than staple fibre and can withstand greater loads. Tests show that the setting rate is significantly lower for spun fibres than for staple fibres.
Foam
Foam can be used as a filler alone or in mixtures with feathers and/or fibres. The inclusion of other fillers in mixtures with foam prevents the fillers from "clumping" together.
Feathers and fibres can be added to increase the mobility of the filling in the pillow, which also makes the pillow easier to fluff. Foam as a filling consists of assorted qualities, which are cut into such small pieces so the surface of the pillow remains even.
Foam as a filler is available in different qualities:
- Granules (grated foam)
- Spaghetti (cut into small strips)
- Sticks (cut into small "rhombus" pieces)
The foam used at B6 A/S is supplied by recognised suppliers and is made in accordance with current environmental regulations. The foam comes with a test report so that we can check the quality and tolerance compliance.
Latex
Latex is a heavy and elastic type of foam. As a filling material, latex provides rather heavy and solid cushions that are also soft and "alive".
As a component in mixtures with, for example, seabird feathers or siliconised fibres, latex provides excellent sitting comfort.
B6 uses only Talalay latex, which gives a very consistent, very high-quality cushion.
